Balloon blowing may ease breathing in children with tuberculosis
NCT ID NCT07484490
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding balloon blowing to standard breathing exercises helps children with tuberculosis cough up mucus, reduce shortness of breath, and improve their ability to walk. Thirty-four children aged 8 to 14 will be randomly assigned to either breathing exercises alone or breathing exercises plus balloon blowing for three days. The goal is to see if the balloon technique provides extra benefit for clearing the lungs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Active cycle of breathing technique with balloon blowing therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way to help children with TB clear mucus and breathe more easily.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage trial with only 34 children over 3 days, so results may not apply widely. The intervention is not a treatment for TB itself.
