Simple breath change could boost COPD inhaler power

NCT ID NCT05381415

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether inhaling a bronchodilator (salbutamol) at a different lung volume helps it work better in people with COPD. 30 participants will inhale the medication either from a low lung volume (as usually done) or from a higher, more relaxed volume. The goal is to see if the higher volume leads to better airflow and more even drug distribution, potentially making inhalers easier to use effectively.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

salbutamol (a bronchodilator) inhaled via a spacer

What this could lead to

If it works, this could simplify how COPD patients take their inhalers, making treatment easier and possibly more effective.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early study (30 people) that has not started yet. It only tests a single dose of one drug, so results may not apply to other medications or long-term use.
