Armpit surgery may be unnecessary for some breast cancer patients after chemo

NCT ID NCT06704945

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tests whether women with breast cancer who have no signs of cancer in their armpit lymph nodes after chemotherapy can safely skip armpit surgery. Half the participants will have standard sentinel node surgery; the other half will have no armpit surgery at all. Researchers will track cancer recurrence and survival over 5 years to see if skipping surgery is just as safe.
