Zapping sleep: scientists test brain stimulation on healthy volunteers

NCT ID NCT07498270

First seen Apr 04, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests whether a gentle, non-invasive electrical stimulation applied to the brain during sleep can temporarily change brain activity patterns, specifically sleep spindles. About 24 healthy adults will each spend 3 nights in a sleep lab to compare real stimulation against a sham (fake) version. The goal is to understand how different stimulation locations and frequencies affect the sleeping brain.
