Brain zap test may unlock how anxiety warps memory
NCT ID NCT07565194
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called theta burst stimulation (TBS) can change how people remember the order of emotional movie clips. Researchers will compare active TBS to a sham (fake) version in 120 healthy adults. The goal is to understand how arousal affects memory, which could inform future anxiety treatments.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Theta Burst Stimulation (TBS) via transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could reveal how brain stimulation alters memory for emotional events, potentially guiding future treatments for anxiety disorders.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage, non-treatment study in healthy volunteers, so results may not directly apply to people with anxiety. The effects of TBS on memory are still uncertain.
