Brain scans could reveal how TMS heals depression
NCT ID NCT06562153
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study uses MRI scans to observe how the brain changes in people with depression during a 5-day accelerated transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment. Researchers aim to see if a new imaging method called INSCAPE can track individual recovery patterns. Twenty adults with major depressive disorder will undergo brain scans before and after TMS therapy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors personalize TMS therapy for depression by using brain scans to track recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 20 participants, focused on observing brain changes rather than testing a new treatment. Results may not apply to all depression patients.
