New study tests better methods for jawbone reconstruction
NCT ID NCT07669792
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two surgical techniques to rebuild lost jawbone in the back of the lower jaw. One method uses the patient's own bone chips with a membrane, while the other uses a special plastic membrane. Sixteen adults with thin jawbones will be treated, and after six months, doctors will check how much new bone grew. The goal is to find which approach works better for placing dental implants.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Khoury's bone shell technique and titanium-reinforced polytetrafluoroethylene membrane
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point to a better way to rebuild jawbone for dental implants, helping more people get stable teeth replacements.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 16 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedures are surgical and carry risks like infection or poor bone healing.
