New hope for stronger bones after spinal injury

NCT ID NCT04708886

Summary

This small, completed pilot study tested a two-step drug treatment to control bone loss in women with chronic spinal cord injury and osteoporosis. Twelve participants received monthly injections of romosozumab for one year to build bone, followed by a year of weekly alendronate pills to help maintain it. Researchers measured changes in bone density and strength using scans and blood tests over the two-year period.
