Simple blood test could spot hidden throat cancer

NCT ID NCT05814549

First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study is testing whether a blood test called NavDx can find HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer early by looking for HPV DNA in the blood. Researchers are enrolling adults aged 45 and older with multiple sexual partners who have no history of this cancer. Participants give blood samples over time, and if the test is positive, they enter a surveillance phase to confirm the finding.

Active substance
NavDx blood test
What this could lead to
If successful, this blood test could provide a simple way to screen for HPV-related throat cancer early, potentially catching it before symptoms appear.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early feasibility study with only 9 participants, so results may not apply to the general population. The test may also miss some cancers or give false positives.
