Dentists on the frontline: gum disease check could uncover hidden diabetes
NCT ID NCT07426224
First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looks at whether adding a quick blood sugar test to routine dental exams for people with advanced gum disease can help find undiagnosed high blood sugar or diabetes. About 300 adults with severe gum disease will get a finger-prick blood test during their dental visit. The goal is to see how common hidden high blood sugar is in this group and whether patients and dentists find this testing helpful.
