Simple cuff trick may boost benefits of walking for diabetes patients
NCT ID NCT07196371
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether walking on a treadmill with a blood pressure cuff around the legs (blood flow restriction) is safe and helpful for people with type 2 diabetes. Sixty participants will either walk with or without the cuff for 6 weeks. Researchers will measure how many people join and stick with the program, and check fitness and blood sugar levels to see if the cuff makes exercise more effective.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
blood flow restriction training (using a blood pressure cuff during treadmill walking)
What this could lead to
If this approach works, it could offer a more effective way to improve fitness and blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes who struggle with regular exercise.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply widely. The intervention is also not a treatment for diabetes itself, and benefits may be modest.
