Scientists hunt for blood cancer clues in patient samples

NCT ID NCT00923442

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study collects blood and bone marrow samples from up to 550 people with blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and myelodysplastic syndrome. Researchers will study the cells, genes, and proteins in these samples to better understand how these cancers develop and to find new targets for treatments. No experimental therapies are given; the goal is purely to gather knowledge that may lead to future advances.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this research could point toward new treatments or vaccines for blood cancers by revealing how these cancers work at a cellular and genetic level.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It collects samples for lab research, so there is no direct benefit to participants. The findings may not lead to new therapies for many years, if at all.
