Simple shot may protect bladder during common sling procedure

NCT ID NCT07208682

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether injecting sterile saline into the space behind the pubic bone before placing a sling for stress incontinence can reduce the risk of accidentally poking the bladder. About 300 women scheduled for this surgery will be randomly assigned to receive the injection or not. The main goal is to see if the injection lowers the rate of bladder perforation.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

retropubic hydrodissection (injection of sterile saline into the retropubic space)

What this could lead to

If it works, this simple injection could make a common incontinence surgery safer by reducing the chance of accidentally poking the bladder.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial. The injection itself may not lower perforation rates, and any benefit may not apply to all patients or surgeons.
