New drug combo aims to fight bladder cancer when standard treatment fails

NCT ID NCT06388720

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests a two-drug combination (mitomycin-C and gemcitabine) given directly into the bladder for people with high-risk bladder cancer that did not respond to BCG therapy. The study will enroll 82 participants to see if this sequential treatment can prevent cancer from coming back or getting worse. Researchers will also monitor safety and side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

mitomycin-C and gemcitabine

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a new treatment option for people with high-risk bladder cancer that hasn't responded to standard therapy, potentially delaying recurrence or progression.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase (phase 2) trial with only 82 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment may not work better than existing options, and side effects from the bladder instillations are possible.
