Donor cells take on dangerous viruses in Immune-Weak patients

NCT ID NCT02479698

First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 36 times

Summary

This study tests whether specially grown donor immune cells (called cytotoxic T lymphocytes) can safely and effectively fight BK and JC virus infections in 100 people with weakened immune systems, such as those with cancer, HIV, or organ transplants. The cells are made in a lab from donated blood and designed to target and kill these viruses. The goal is to control the infection and reduce complications, not to cure the underlying condition.
