Could testosterone shots keep prostate cancer at bay?
NCT ID NCT06594926
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether giving testosterone injections (bipolar androgen therapy) can delay the time it takes for prostate cancer to spread in men whose cancer is progressing despite standard treatment. About 69 men with non-metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer will receive testosterone every 8 weeks along with their usual darolutamide. The goal is to see if this approach extends metastasis-free survival.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
testosterone enanthate (a form of testosterone)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new way to delay cancer spread in men with prostate cancer that is resistant to standard hormone therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 69 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Testosterone therapy can also cause side effects like increased PSA or tumor growth in some cases.
