Can a simple blood test predict arthritis drug success?
NCT ID NCT06933134
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a mathematical model using blood markers can predict how well rheumatoid arthritis patients will respond to a lower dose of the drug rituximab. Thirty adults with RA who already do well on standard-dose rituximab will switch to a lower dose. Researchers will compare the model's predictions to actual disease activity scores to see if it works.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- rituximab (low-dose, 1000 mg once per cycle)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors predict which rheumatoid arthritis patients will respond well to a lower dose of rituximab, reducing side effects and costs.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The biomarker model may not accurately predict responses in real-world settings.
