Can a soy compound shield lungs from radiation damage?

NCT ID NCT07323732

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase II trial tests whether a drug called BIO 300, made from a soy compound, can prevent severe lung inflammation (pneumonitis) in people with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer who also have interstitial lung disease. About 25 participants will receive BIO 300 along with standard chest radiation. The goal is to see if the combination reduces the risk of serious breathing problems.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

BIO 300 (a synthetic form of genistein, a soy compound)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a way to reduce severe lung inflammation from radiation in patients with both lung cancer and interstitial lung disease, potentially improving treatment safety.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 25 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The drug may not prevent pneumonitis or could cause side effects.
