First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new prosthetic foot system for women veterans with below-knee amputations. The device uses 3D-printed feet that can be swapped to fit different shoes, giving users more footwear options. Researchers want to see if this improves body image and social participation. The study will enroll 18 women veterans.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
RECOVER Prosthetic Ankle-Feet System (a prosthetic device with 3D-printed feet for different shoes)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help women veterans with amputations feel better about their body image and participate more in social activities by allowing them to wear a wider variety of shoes.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 18 participants, so results may not apply to all veterans. The device may not fit well or could cause skin problems.
