This study looks at whether combining handgrip strength tests, body composition scans, and thigh ultrasound can better detect acute sarcopenia—a rapid loss of muscle mass and function—in older adults hospitalized for acute medical conditions. Researchers will follow 280 patients aged 65 and older, measuring muscle changes over their hospital stay. The goal is to improve early detection and understand risk factors, not to test a treatment.
