New tool aims to stop misdiagnosis of dangerous repeat blood clots

NCT ID NCT02297373

Summary

This study tested a set of questions and a blood test (a 'clinical decision rule') to help doctors more accurately diagnose a new blood clot in patients who have had one before. It involved 744 adult outpatients who were suspected of having a repeat clot. The goal was to see if this tool could reduce unnecessary imaging tests and prevent patients from being incorrectly told they have a new clot when they don't, or missing a real one.
