Scoliosis study: does your back shape change how you see yourself?
NCT ID NCT07166328
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at how the shape of the back (both side-to-side and twisting) relates to how teenagers with scoliosis feel about their own body image. Researchers will use a safe, radiation-free 3D scanner called BACKSCNR to measure back asymmetry in 40 teens aged 11-18 with moderate scoliosis. Participants will also fill out a questionnaire about how they perceive their trunk appearance. The goal is to understand the link between physical asymmetry and self-image, which could improve care for teens with scoliosis.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
BACKSCNR (non-invasive 3D back scanner)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors better understand how visible back asymmetry affects a teen's self-image, leading to more holistic scoliosis care.
What could go wrong
This is a small, observational study (40 people) that only measures relationships, not treatments. Results may not apply to all scoliosis patients.
