Scoliosis study: does your back shape change how you see yourself?
NCT ID NCT07166328
First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at how the shape of the back (both side-to-side and twisting) relates to how teenagers with scoliosis feel about their own body image. Researchers will use a safe, radiation-free 3D scanner called BACKSCNR to measure back asymmetry in 40 teens aged 11-18 with moderate scoliosis. Participants will also fill out a questionnaire about how they perceive their trunk appearance. The goal is to understand the link between physical asymmetry and self-image, which could improve care for teens with scoliosis.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- BACKSCNR (non-invasive 3D back scanner)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors better understand how visible back asymmetry affects a teen's self-image, leading to more holistic scoliosis care.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, observational study (40 people) that only measures relationships, not treatments. Results may not apply to all scoliosis patients.
