3D exercise may straighten the curve in teen scoliosis
NCT ID NCT03427970
First seen Aug 04, 2026 · Last updated Aug 05, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a specialized 3D exercise program can slow or reduce spine curvature in adolescents with mild idiopathic scoliosis. Participants aged 10-16 with curves between 10-20 degrees will be randomly assigned to either the exercise program or standard observation. After six months, researchers will compare changes in curve angle, trunk rotation, and quality of life to see if the exercises offer a benefit over watchful waiting.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- three-dimensionally integrated exercise for scoliosis
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this exercise program could offer a non-surgical way to slow or prevent curve progression in teens with mild scoliosis, potentially reducing the need for bracing or surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 42 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The exercise program requires consistent participation, and its benefit over standard observation is not yet proven.
