Race against time: can new drug rescue kidneys from sepsis?

Summary

This study is testing whether an experimental drug called AZD4144 can help improve kidney function in hospitalized adults whose kidneys have been injured by a severe bloodstream infection (sepsis). About 124 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the drug or a placebo (inactive solution) through an IV daily for a set period while doctors closely monitor their kidney health and safety. The main goal is to see if those receiving the drug show better recovery in key kidney function measurements compared to those receiving the placebo.
