Common drugs linked to Post-Surgery confusion in seniors

NCT ID NCT03390751

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at 161 older adults who had hip fracture or joint replacement surgery. Researchers checked if medications with a high 'atropine load' (a measure of anticholinergic effect) were linked to postoperative confusion. They used the Confusion Assessment Method daily and the Duran scale to rate drug atropine load. The goal is to help doctors choose safer drugs to prevent confusion.
