Blood cell ratios may predict asthma flare risk

NCT ID NCT07730047

First seen Jul 28, 2026 · Last updated Jul 29, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether three simple blood test measurements — the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), eosinophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (ELR), and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) — can help assess how well asthma is controlled in adults. Researchers will compare these blood markers with the standard Asthma Control Test (ACT) score in 140 adults with bronchial asthma. If the markers correlate well, they could become a quick, inexpensive tool for doctors to monitor asthma control during routine checkups.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If these blood test ratios prove reliable, they could offer a simple, low-cost way to monitor asthma control in clinics.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The biomarkers may not be accurate enough to replace current assessment methods.
