ER-to-Specialist telehealth boost could cut asthma attacks
NCT ID NCT07396987
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether arranging a telehealth appointment with an asthma specialist before patients leave the emergency room increases follow-up care. Forty adults who come to the ER for an asthma attack will either get a scheduled telehealth visit or usual care. The goal is to see if this simple step improves asthma control and reduces repeat ER visits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
telehealth referral
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could help more asthma patients get specialist care after an ER visit, potentially reducing future attacks and hospital visits.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention focuses on scheduling, not a new treatment, so the impact on asthma control may be limited.
