First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested two types of exercises in 54 adults with chronic asthma: one that stretches the upper back and one that pulls the shoulder blades back. The goal was to see if these exercises could improve chest expansion, lung function, and shortness of breath. Participants did the exercises three times a week for eight weeks under supervision.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Thoracic spine rotation stretching and scapular retraction exercises

What this could lead to

If successful, these simple exercises could offer a drug-free way to improve breathing and reduce shortness of breath in people with asthma.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 54 participants. Results may not apply to all asthma patients, and exercises require supervision to be done correctly.
