Text messages may curb binge drinking in young adults not in college
NCT ID NCT06617702
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a text-message program called ASPIRE that sends brief coaching messages on Thursdays and Sundays to help young adults ages 18–25 who are not in college reduce their drinking. Participants must have had at least two heavy drinking days in the past month. The program focuses on changing thoughts about drinking, behaviors, and peer influences. Researchers will compare it to a simpler text-message program and follow participants for one year to see if it reduces binge drinking and alcohol-related problems.

What this could lead to
If effective, this low-cost text-message program could offer a scalable way to help young adults reduce binge drinking and avoid alcohol-related problems.
