Could saving the areola during mastectomy be safe and better looking?
NCT ID NCT07544134
First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study explores whether women with early-stage breast cancer can keep their areola (the dark skin around the nipple) even if cancer is found in the nipple during surgery. About 40 women will have the nipple removed and a new one created right away, while the areola is saved. Researchers will track cancer return, complications, and patient satisfaction over 3 years to see if this approach is safe and improves appearance.
