Splash therapy: tiny study tests pool workouts for POTS
NCT ID NCT07182578
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tested whether a 12-week aquatic occupational therapy program could reduce symptoms and improve quality of life in people with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Five adults with POTS completed three 60-minute pool sessions per week, including gentle stretching, balance exercises, and strength training. Researchers measured heart rate, balance, and symptom scores before and after the program to see if the water-based approach was feasible and helpful.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
aquatic occupational therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a safe, drug-free way to manage POTS symptoms and improve daily function.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 5 participants and no comparison group. Results may not apply to all people with POTS, and the therapy requires a pool and trained therapist.
