Warm water workouts may melt stress away

NCT ID NCT05223855

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This completed trial tested whether one-on-one physiotherapy sessions in warm water (34-36°C) can reduce stress and improve sleep. 28 adults on sick leave due to stress were randomly assigned to either twice-weekly aquatic physiotherapy for 8 weeks or usual care from their GP. Stress levels and sleep quality were measured using standard questionnaires before and after treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
aquatic physiotherapy (one-on-one treatment in warm water)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a drug-free option to help people with stress feel more relaxed and sleep better.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage trial with only 28 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The control group received usual care, not a placebo, so benefits could be due to attention or expectation.
