Blood test ratio may speed up detection of dangerous lung clots

NCT ID NCT06192199

First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether the ratio of two common blood test results (APTT and fibrinogen) can help diagnose pulmonary embolism, a serious condition where a blood clot blocks an artery in the lung. Researchers will compare this ratio in 1,000 patients who are suspected of having a pulmonary embolism and undergo a special CT scan. The goal is to find a cutoff value that could help doctors identify the condition more quickly and easily.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a simpler blood test to help doctors quickly identify pulmonary embolism, reducing reliance on complex scans.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The ratio may not prove accurate enough to replace standard diagnostic methods.
