Oxygen trick during lung surgery may cut inflammation

NCT ID NCT07393490

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether giving oxygen to the lung that is not being ventilated during lung cancer surgery can reduce inflammation and improve oxygen levels. Researchers will measure inflammatory markers in lung tissue and blood from 56 adult patients. The goal is to see if this simple procedure could lead to better recovery after surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Apneic oxygenation (a procedure where oxygen is given to the lung that is not being mechanically ventilated during surgery)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to better oxygen management during lung cancer surgery, potentially reducing inflammation and improving recovery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (56 participants) looking at lab markers, not patient outcomes. The procedure may not show a meaningful benefit or could have unknown risks.
