New PET scan could replace biopsies for breast cancer patients

NCT ID NCT07294430

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a special PET scan that uses a radioactive tracer to track a protein called HER2 in the body. It aims to see if this imaging can predict how well a targeted cancer drug (T-DXd) works in 30 people with advanced breast cancer. The goal is to potentially replace invasive tumor biopsies with a simple scan.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

radioactive tracer [89Zr]-anti-HER2

What this could lead to

If successful, this imaging method could help doctors predict whether a targeted cancer drug is working without needing a tumor biopsy.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage pilot study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The imaging technique is experimental and may not reliably predict treatment response.
