Antibiotics aim to shrink hidden bacteria in oral tumors

NCT ID NCT06627270

First seen Mar 06, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether a short course of antibiotics (metronidazole) and mouthwash (chlorhexidine) can lower the amount of bacteria living inside oral cancer tumors. About 30 adults scheduled for oral cancer surgery will receive the treatment before their operation. Researchers will compare tumor bacteria levels before and after antibiotics, and track long-term outcomes like cancer recurrence and survival.
