New stitches could improve infection control in joint replacements

NCT ID NCT07322289

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study looks at whether using stitches coated with an antibiotic (triclosan) is as good as or better than standard stitches for people with infected hip or knee replacements who are having a surgery called DAIR (debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention). About 142 adults will take part. The goal is to see if the coated stitches reduce the chance of the infection coming back within 90 days, while also being stronger and more comfortable for surgeons to use.
