Blood test may spot kidney disease relapse

NCT ID NCT06334692

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether measuring certain antibodies in the blood can help diagnose and monitor idiopathic nephrotic syndrome, a kidney condition that causes swelling and protein loss. Researchers will test blood samples from 100 adults with different forms of the disease and compare them to controls. The goal is to see if these antibodies can reliably tell apart different types of nephrotic syndrome and possibly predict relapses.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Diagnostic test (ELISA) for anti-nephrin autoantibodies

What this could lead to

If successful, this test could help doctors diagnose certain types of nephrotic syndrome more accurately and possibly detect relapses earlier.

What could go wrong

This is a small, retrospective study that only measures antibody levels—it does not test a treatment. The test may not prove reliable enough for routine use.
