Could a hidden antibody explain liver injury in anorexia?
NCT ID NCT06869590
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study investigates whether certain autoantibodies (anti-HIF1a) are more common in people with anorexia nervosa who also have liver damage. Researchers will compare 100 anorexia patients (with and without liver issues) to 150 control participants, including healthy individuals and those with liver damage from other causes. The goal is to confirm earlier findings and better understand the role of these antibodies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this research could point toward a new understanding of why some people with anorexia develop liver problems, potentially leading to better monitoring or future treatments.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks for a link, so it may not lead to any direct therapy. Results may not apply to all patients.
