Migraine drug shows promise for rare facial nerve pain

NCT ID NCT04158752

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tested a drug that blocks a protein called CGRP, which is involved in pain and inflammation, in 26 adults with trigeminal or glossopharyngeal nerve pain linked to small fiber neuropathy or fibromyalgia. The main goals were to see if the drug reduces pain and the need for other pain medications, while also checking its safety. The drug is already approved for migraines, so researchers wanted to see if it could help with these other types of nerve pain.
