New calcium pill could ease burden for hypoparathyroidism patients
NCT ID NCT06547151
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study tests a new form of calcium called AMOR-1 in 81 adults with hypoparathyroidism, a condition where the body can't control calcium levels. Participants will take either AMOR-1 or standard calcium pills to see if AMOR-1 can better maintain normal calcium levels while allowing them to take less calcium overall. The trial is double-blind, meaning neither patients nor doctors know who gets which treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Amorphous Calcium Carbonate (AMOR-1)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a more effective way to manage calcium levels in people with hypoparathyroidism, potentially reducing the need for high-dose calcium supplements.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 81 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment may not work better than standard calcium, and side effects are still being studied.
