Could a simple protein infusion boost stroke recovery?

NCT ID NCT07294391

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether giving a protein called albumin directly into the artery during a stroke procedure can reduce brain damage. Sixty adults with a severe stroke will receive either standard treatment alone or standard treatment plus albumin. The goal is to see if albumin helps limit the size of the stroke and improves recovery at 90 days.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

human albumin (a protein in blood) given as an infusion into the artery

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, safe way to protect the brain after a stroke and improve recovery chances.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 60 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The benefit of albumin is unproven, and there is a risk of allergic reactions or fluid overload.
