AI vs. nurse: which orientation keeps ICU patients calmer?

NCT ID NCT07171944

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study compares an AI-powered orientation program to one given by human nurses for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). The goal is to see if the AI program helps patients have more days without delirium, lowers anxiety and depression, and shortens their hospital stay. Ten adult ICU patients will take part, receiving orientation twice daily for three days.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
structured orientation program (AI-supported vs. human nurse)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, AI-based way to reduce delirium, anxiety, and hospital stays for ICU patients.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early trial (10 people) that hasn't started yet. Results may not apply to all ICU patients, and the AI program may not outperform human nurses.
