AI assistant could transform kidney care in emergency rooms
NCT ID NCT06840210
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing an artificial intelligence tool designed to help emergency room doctors detect and manage acute kidney injury (AKI) sooner. Researchers will roll out the AI system at three hospitals and track whether it improves care, reduces kidney damage, and fits into doctors' workflows. Up to 200,000 adult ER patients will be included, with the goal of seeing if the tool can make a real-world difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
AI-powered clinical decision support system
What this could lead to
If successful, this AI tool could help ER doctors catch kidney injury earlier, reduce complications, and be adopted in hospitals nationwide.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage implementation study, so the tool may not improve outcomes or fit smoothly into busy ER workflows. Results may vary across hospitals.
