AI could help family doctors catch hidden heart disease
NCT ID NCT06637293
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether an AI platform called DeepECG can help family doctors and nurse practitioners better detect structural heart disease from electrocardiograms. The trial will involve 2,000 patients and use a stepped-wedge design where clinics gradually switch on the AI. The main goal is to see if AI assistance improves the accuracy of referrals to cardiology.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
DeepECG platform (AI software for ECG analysis)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help family doctors more accurately identify patients who need heart specialist care, reducing missed diagnoses.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study testing AI in a controlled setting; real-world performance may vary, and the AI might not improve outcomes for all patients.
