AI learns to spot bladder cancer under blue light
NCT ID NCT07144319
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study collects video recordings and data from 500 patients undergoing blue light cystoscopy, a procedure where a drug makes cancer cells glow. The goal is to train an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm to detect bladder lesions in real time, helping doctors make more accurate decisions during routine exams. No new treatments are being tested—only data is being gathered to develop the AI tool.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Hexvix/Cysview (a drug that makes cancer cells glow under blue light)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to an AI tool that helps doctors spot bladder cancer more reliably during cystoscopy, potentially reducing missed lesions.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early data-collection study, not a treatment trial. The AI is not yet tested in real-time use, and results may not translate into immediate patient benefit.
