AI writes therapy scripts to heal old wounds

NCT ID NCT07189715

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This pilot study tests whether artificial intelligence can create personalized therapy scripts to help adults reframe painful memories of childhood criticism. Eighty participants with anxiety will listen to AI-generated audio scenarios based on their own memories. Half will receive a therapeutic version where a therapist figure addresses unmet needs. The goal is to see if this approach reduces anxiety, fear of failure, and rumination one week later.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
AI-generated imagery rescripting scripts
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a scalable, low-cost digital therapy for anxiety and rumination triggered by childhood criticism.
What could go wrong
This is a very early pilot with only 80 participants and no comparison to standard therapy. The AI scripts may not feel personal or effective, and benefits may not last beyond one week.
