AI steps in to rewrite painful memories for anxiety relief

NCT ID NCT07565714

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether AI-generated audio stories can help people with anxiety and fear of failure. Forty adults will listen to personalized scenarios based on childhood memories of criticism, with one version including a therapeutic twist where a supportive figure steps in. The goal is to see if this AI-assisted technique can reduce anxiety, rumination, and fear of failure.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Imagery rescripting intervention (behavioral) using AI-generated audio scenarios
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new, scalable way to deliver therapy for anxiety and rumination using AI.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage study with only 40 participants. The AI-generated scripts may not be as effective as therapist-created ones, and results may not apply to broader populations.
