AI takes the wheel on pain control in the operating room
NCT ID NCT07253012
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests an artificial intelligence system called SEASCAPE that helps doctors manage pain during surgery. The AI monitors patient data in real time and suggests the best dose of a painkiller (remifentanil) to avoid giving too much or too little. 150 adults having planned surgeries lasting 2-4 hours will take part. The goal is to see if the AI can improve pain control and reduce complications compared to standard methods.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Remifentanil (opioid) delivered via target-controlled infusion, guided by an AI copilot system (SEASCAPE)
What this could lead to
If successful, this AI system could help doctors give the right amount of pain medicine during surgery, reducing side effects and improving recovery.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with 150 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The AI may not always outperform standard methods, and technical issues could arise.
