AI-Powered smartwatches hunt for stealthy heart condition in stroke survivors
NCT ID NCT07540065
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using artificial intelligence (AI) along with a smartwatch and a heart monitor patch can find a hidden heart rhythm problem called atrial fibrillation (AF) in people who have had a stroke. AF can cause strokes, but it often comes and goes without symptoms. The trial will compare this AI-assisted approach to standard follow-up care in 400 stroke patients. If it works, it could help doctors start blood-thinning medicine sooner to prevent another stroke.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- AI-guided workflow with smartwatch and ECG patch
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could make it easier to detect hidden heart rhythm problems after a stroke, helping doctors start blood thinners earlier to prevent another stroke.
- What could go wrong
- This trial hasn't started yet, and it's testing a new way of using existing devices. The AI may not improve detection rates as hoped, and the smartwatch or patch might be uncomfortable or unreliable for some patients.
