AI-Powered smartwatches hunt for stealthy heart condition in stroke survivors

NCT ID NCT07540065

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether using artificial intelligence (AI) along with a smartwatch and a heart monitor patch can find a hidden heart rhythm problem called atrial fibrillation (AF) in people who have had a stroke. AF can cause strokes, but it often comes and goes without symptoms. The trial will compare this AI-assisted approach to standard follow-up care in 400 stroke patients. If it works, it could help doctors start blood-thinning medicine sooner to prevent another stroke.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

AI-guided workflow with smartwatch and ECG patch

What this could lead to

If successful, this could make it easier to detect hidden heart rhythm problems after a stroke, helping doctors start blood thinners earlier to prevent another stroke.

What could go wrong

This trial hasn't started yet, and it's testing a new way of using existing devices. The AI may not improve detection rates as hoped, and the smartwatch or patch might be uncomfortable or unreliable for some patients.
